The US Department of Agriculture is spending $40 million this year to investigate how vulnerable American agriculture is to biological terrorism. Some 16 percent of the US economy involves growing food (animal and plant.) Agricultural products are even more vulnerable to biological weapons than humans, there being a wider variety of diseases and less medical care for plants and animals. Releasing a fast spreading plant or animal disease, especially a genetically modified one, could have a world wide effect, as America is the largest exporters of food on the planet.
