Aid groups are calling for UN intervention in Darfur, but the UN is going to have a hard time convincing any country to send a force of troops to a place that is, literally, over a thousand kilometers from any source of supplies and modern transportation. Few journalists can get into the area, meaning that there is no large supply of dramatic video to stoke public interest. The Arab gunmen have not attacked foreign aid workers, but it is feared that this could change as more foreign aid shows up in the region. All those trucks loaded with food and other goods is often irresistible to armed militiamen. It is currently thought that over 200,000 Sudanese have fled into Chad, but that several hundred thousand may die from starvation and disease if help does not arrive soon.
