International calls for negotiations over Chechnya continue to run into the problem of no widely recognized leader on the rebel side, nor any assurance that a rebel leader could indeed control all the rebel factions. Meanwhile, in Chechnya, more Chechens are working for the Russians, if only out of economic necessity. This has caused an ongoing battle between rebels and "pro-Russian" Chechens.
