Boeing produces about 1,500 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM, the favorite smart bomb of the Afghan War) per month, but at the height of the conflict the US was dropping more than 80 per day (2500 per month). The Pentagon has asked for money to increase the production rate to 2,000 per month by the end of FY03 and to 3,000 per month by the end of FY04. In FY03, the Air Force has asked for funds for 22,700 and the Navy for 9,880.--Stephen V Cole
