Singapore will host an international submarine rescue exercise on 2-14 October. Singapore has just started operating Swedish-built submarines and has no rescue capability. Japan and South Korea will each send a deep submergence rescue sub based on a support ship. The US will send a Submarine Rescue Chamber that will be flown to Singapore and sent to sea on the support ship Kenrick. Singapore will provide the "sunken" submarine. Britain and Australia plan to send observers and Chile has inquired about observing the exercise.--Stephen V Cole
