Additional police arrived in the northern city of Kano and restored peace after two days of attacks by Moslem mobs against any Christians they could find. The attacks, which left at least ten dead, were in retaliation for the hundreds of Moslem dead in religious strife in central Nigeria. While there is some fear that Christian mobs, in the largely Christian south, will retaliate against their Moslem majority, most of the violence has been coming from the Moslems. Islamic clerics have been preaching against infidels (non-Moslems) and the need to adopt Sharia (Moslem religious law) for all Nigerians. Some states in northern Nigeria are trying to do that, but are meeting resistance from Christians who still want to enjoy their pork and beer.
