Some 1,056 rebels have been killed since the ceasefire collapsed in August. In addition 82 soldiers, 171 Armed Police Force (APF) personnel and 105 policemen in the past four months have died. No one really seems to be keeping track of the collateral damage to the noncombatant population, although human rights organizations are investigating the 'disappearance' of 700 civilians. - Adam Geibel
