 In a battle around an airport 290 kilometers northeast of the capital, 32 rebels and two soldiers died. Rebels continue to launch attacks on police, government and army installations, but tend to be driven off by defenders. The rebel fighters are less well trained and led than in the past, indicating the impact of the army destroying rebel training camps, and killing veteran rebel leaders.
