Over the past few days, thousands of people rioted in the northeastern city of Sabzevar. What sparked the unrest was the government's decision not to name Sabzevar as a provincial capital. But with over a dozen dead and over a thousand arrested, the unrest seems to have fed on the growing anger towards Islamic conservatives who control the police and courts.
