There were some tense moments 94 kilometers off the coast of Taiwan as two Chinese navy ships (a spy ship and an icebreaker) approached within six kilometers of Taiwanese navy ships conducting anti-submarine exercise. China has shown a great deal more interest in submarine warfare over the last few years, and Taiwans plans to deal with it. 

China has sentenced four men to up to ten years in prison for posting "subversive messages" on the Internet. The four set up a web site for the discussion of social reform in China. The government has not been able to completely control the Internet with technical means (finding, and blocking, offensive sites), so going after selected offenders is an attempt to intimidate others.
