The government has begun to destroy some poppy crops in eastern Afghanistan. But this effort, as currently configured, is unlikely to destroy more than a few percent of the poppy crop (which is refined to produce most of the worlds heroin supply.) Pakistan is urging that the anti-poppy campaign be increased, because there is so much poppy plants being harvested that the price of heroin has plunged low enough to cause an addiction problem in Pakistan.

In Kabul police have arrested seven men suspected of being involved in terrorist suspects. It's not known of the men are Taliban, al Qaeda or from the radical Islamic  Hezb-i-Islami group.
