Afghan authorities have arrested two Kandahar officials for negligence. The two men are accused of poor management of the former Taliban ammo dump in Spin Boldak that caught fire and exploded on the 27th.

American troops searching in the southeast have found the largest Taliban/al Qaeda arms dump so far. Amounting to some eight tons, the dump included American Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. While local Afghans are reluctant to provide tips for cash on Taliban leaders or al Qaeda, they will mention where large quantities of weapons are being stored.

The campaign against al Qaeda and the Taliban takes place largely in the shadows. Special Forces teams continue to work with the tribes and establish a network of contacts and mercenaries that can assist in capturing al Qaeda and senior Taliban leaders in Afghanistan and northern Pakistan.
