  A son of Ismail Khan expressed fear that his father had not escaped from a Taliban jail, where important prisoners are chained, but instead was killed, and the Taliban are using the escape story to hide behind. Meanwhile, Taliban troops, looking for Khan, raided UN offices in Kandahar. As a result, the UN closed its offices in the city. Although the Taliban apologized for the raid, there had long been a pattern of harsh treatment of UN staff by the Taliban.
