December 16, 2006: For the first time, Chinese and Pakistani troops participated in a joint training exercise. This was held near the China-Pakistan border, in a mountainous area of northern Pakistan. Only 200 Chinese troops were involved. China has long been a major supplier of weapons to Pakistan. Both countries are also keen on controlling the smuggling across their mutual (523 kilometer) border, and suppression of Islamic terrorism.
