One of the unforeseen problems of joint peacekeeping operations is the embarrassment American troops encounter when they have to turn out in dress uniforms with allied troops. This is usually for some ceremony or another, or leave in a nearby country. The problem is that America is unique in the number of medals it awards to its troops. In most other countries, you only get a medal if you serve in a war or do something spectacular. Thus when American troops appear in dress uniform with all their awards and are asked what they are for, it's awkward. Wearing such awards on the dress uniform is mandatory, so you can't leave them off without risking trouble from your own officers.
