The U.S. Department of Labor keeps track of Americans working for the Department of Defense overseas, as security professionals, who are killed or injured in the line of duty. For all of 2001 and 2001, there were ten deaths and 843 injuries. In 2003, there were 94 deaths, and 1,164 injuries. The government did not break out these injuries by the country they occurred in, but did say that most of the 2003 injuries were in Iraq.
