Singapore Technologies Kinetics is testing its new Terrex AV81 armored vehicle in the UK. This is yet another 8x8 armored car capable of conversion into multiple variants (infantry, mortar, anti-tank, air defense, command, logistics, forward observer, recon, etc.) The Terrex AV81 is a joint project of Singapore and Ireland's Timoney High Mobility Vehicles. The baseline vehicle is an armored personnel carrier (crew of two, 12 infantry, external weapons mount fired by remote control from under armor). The top deck of the vehicle is designed for easy conversion to any desired variant, and could hold a two-man turret with a 25mm cannon. The baseline engine is 400 horsepower diesel, but this can be easily replaced by any powerpack the customer desires. The vehicle can also be given applique armor if needed. The vehicle is amphibious, has a road speed of 75 miles per hour, and can be carried inside a C-130.--Stephen V Cole
