Armor: June 8, 2001

Archives

Vietnam has at least 300 captured M113 armored personnel carriers, which it wants to use to form an armored division that would be based in the southern part of the country. It hired Singapore to replace the gasoline engines with diesels, but the US blocked the deal. The current plan is to replace the engines with some commercial model available without breaking the US embargo on weapons and spare parts for captured weapons.--Stephen V Cole
