Armor: France Builds a Better Armored Hummer

Archives

April 18,2008: The French Army has received the first 30 of 931 armored vehicles, very similar to armored hummers. The PVP (Pétits Véhicule Protégé) is a four ton vehicle that can be configured to seat as many as seven (including the driver.) It's a 4x4 vehicle protected by 6-10mm composite (metal and ceramic) armor that provides protection from heavy machine-guns and anti-personnel mines. The PVP is 14 feet long, air transportable and modular, so that it can quickly shift from personnel to cargo carrier. The vehicles cost $254,000 each.
